New-Moon Orion is an energetic, atheltic colt, with a friendly, inquistive nature. He responds very well to training – perhaps the easiest horse we have ever trained to load on a float.
NM Orion has athletic ground covering action in all three paces, and is certainly quick! He placed 1st Male Foal in the Open section on the Trakehners Australia National Assessment Tour 2017, and scored =3rd overall out of 52 horses from all classes on the tour (predominantly Trakehner and Holsteiner breeds). International judge Matthias Werner noted that he has a correct and long-legged foundation, with a well grown body, long legged and athletic movements out of a strong and well muscled hindquarter. A modern kind of sporthorse.
NM Orion’s dam is the purebred Arabian mare Sashenka LEA (by Adras). She boasts a wonderful pedigree of Russian and Polish racing lines, and is a grand-daughter of the famous Vnuchka, an International flat race winning mare purchased from Tersk stud for US$130K in 1988. Sashenka Lea’s sire Adras was time-trialed in flat racing as a 3yo over 800m and 1200m, with times matching the thoroughbreds in training at the same track. Adras progeny are recognised for carrying speed, height, and the temperament for elite competition. Sashenka Lea was approved for Trakehner breeding in 2016 and listed in studbook 1 of the German Trakhener Verband.
Sashenka LEA was started under saddle in mid-2017. She won her HARC maiden sprint over 1150m in Merton, Victoria in October 2017, then moved across into endurance training, to become qualified for open competition under AERA National rules in early 2019. In July 2019 she successfully completed the 160km Tom Quilty Gold Cup National Championship held in Queensland, placing 48th out of 136 starters in the Middleweight division.
NM Orion’s sire is Olymp al Samarra, a Shagya-Araber stallion standing at stud in Germany. Olymp has been approved in three separate stallion performance tests, and is a champion endurance horse with a long career of competing for Germany on the International stage in endurance. Olymp’s progeny are successfully competing and winning in endurance in Europe.
